Corgan has said that Oceania is the Pumpkins' "best effort since Mellon Collie". Comparing it to his previous works, he said, "it is the first time where you actually hear me escape the old band. I'm not reacting against it or for it or in the shadow of it."

Oceania was recorded at singer/guitarist Billy Corgan's private studio in chicago with his bandmates: guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist/vocalist Nicole Fiorentino. The powerful 13-song collection was produced by Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud and mixed by David Bottrill. Marking the Smashing Pumpkins' 7th studio record, it is "an album within an album," part of their 44-song work-in-progress Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.

disapointing

corgan fan 78 on 24.06.2012

The worst of all the SP albums, by far. If you had downloaded the free Teargarden tunes over the last year or two and were hoping for some equally good stuff, your in for disapointment. If your hoping for MCollie pop rock, prepare for heart brake. If your hoping for something excitingly different like Adore, its not here. For a supremely talented guy, who has consistently put out great music, this is surprisingly bad.

This is a fantastic album that shows that the Smashing Pumpkins can still produce great music.
