Irish teenagers Runt (Elaine Cassidy) and Pig (Cillian Murphy) were born minutes apart, are next-door neighbors and are inseparable and mutually obsessed. Two against the world, they maintain a cycle of baby talk, daily rituals, brutal little games directed against schoolmates and an aggressively blissful indifference to everyone else around them. Teachers and parents despair of the two, until someone has the bright idea of sending Runt off to a special institution. A devastated Pig makes his way across Ireland to rescue her, but the separation has sent him further over the edge than ever. Meanwhile, Runt is beginning, hesitantly, to strike up other friendships, and her dangerously self-enclosed relationship with Pig is clearly heading for disaster.
