The films in this exclusive limited-edition box represent a stylish, worldly, collection of American Independent film from a legendary and acclaimed director noted for his ironic wit, laconic style, and often his gorgeous black-and-white photography. Jarmusch's singular vision of life's eccentric moments and characters remains a unique experience for the film lover.
Stranger Than Paradise: The new world: Bela Molnar, originally Hungarian, has lived in New York forthe past ten years. Eva Molnar, his sixteen-year-old cousin, is just arriving in the U.S. to begin a new life, and is forced to stay with WILLIE before travelling to Cleveland. During this period WILLIE's preconceptions of EVA slowly change, and it is only as she is leaving New York that WILLIE is able to see her in hertrue light: a black sheep of the family, similar to himself.
Down By Law: Jim Jarmusch's quirky follow-up to his groundbreaking STRANGER THAN PARADISE is a comic fable about finding the American dream in the most unlikely of places. After being thrown out of the house by his girlfriend, Zack (Tom Waits), an out-of-work DJ, takes a job driving a stolen car with a body in the trunk across the state line. He is arrested and put into a cell with Jack (John Lurie), a pimp who's been busted for recruiting a minor. The trio is completed when Roberto (the always hysterical Roberto Benigni), an Italian tourist who is arrested for killing a man while playing cards, joins them in their cell. Eventually, Roberto succeeds in convincing Zack and Jack to break out of jail with him.
Night On Earth: A collection of five stories involving cab drivers in five different cities. Los Angeles - A talent agent for the movies discovers her cab driver would be perfect to cast, but the cabbie is reluctant to give up her solid cab driver's career. New York - An immigrant cab driver is continually lost in a city and culture he doesn't understand. Paris - A blind girl takes a ride with a cab driver from the Ivory Coast and they talk about life and blindness. Rome - A gregarious cabbie picks up an ailing man and virtually talks him to death. Helsinki - an industrial worker gets laid off and he and his compatriots discuss the bleakness and unfairness of love and life and death.
