Vampire Weekend formed and cut their musical teeth at NYC's Columbia's University, taking their name from a film that frontman Ezra Koenig wrote and trailered. The band have been setting Gotham alight with a series of celebratory live performances over the summer, sharing bills with the likes of Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors and Ra Ra Riot as well as selling out headline shows at the legendary Bowery Ballroom and the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The album is a beguiling mix of this preppy young band's direct, danceable tunes and afrobeat-tinged, experimental pop - music from New York's hottest new band that challenges any preconceptions of what a New York band is meant to sound like.
