Fluctuating somewhere in a world of tantalising splendor which is neither black nor white where the law abiding fear to tread. Woe betide the faint of heart. The album was recorded with Andy Miller at Chemikal Underground, the first time they have worked together since Mogwai's Young Team debut, and mixed with Gareth Jones at Castle Of Doom, and the beautiful packaging for the record has been designed by their close friend Aidan Moffat.

The thirteenth studio album by The Cure was originally intended to be a double album, however frontman Robert Smith confirmed in recent interviews that this idea was scrapped, despite the fact that 33 songs have been recorded. Smith has said that the album will mostly comprise of the upbeat songs the band recorded, while the darker songs may be released on another album.
The new world of The Drones is an exotic place, one populated by dark corners, rarely explored avenues, sparse canvases and dense, exhilarating peaks. In February, front man Gareth Liddiard began writing new songs for the album, in a mud brick cottage in deep within the splendid isolation of Mt Buffalo, in country Victoria.
