This media player is rubbish

Peed Off on 20.02.2012

I bought this media player for my girlfriend and it is crap. It started off okay with the first digital video media working but as soon as there is an error or compatibility issue with another it shuts down, even good media wont play. I did a test, one movie worked, tried another it was incompatible so i tried the one that worked earlier and it didn't work now. I had to trawl internet forums to find a solution and apparantly you need to hit a reset button somewhere on the case, haven't looked at it yet, to be able to start again. No doubt it will be time consuming. Some posts mentioned that even after reseting it still wouldn't work, will check this out for myself tomorrow.

Do not buy!!

Aaron on 22.02.2012

Purchased 2 of these units. Both had the same issue. Would not play MP4 files correctly. Plays them for 20 seconds and then freezes. From then on no other file will play giving an unsupported file format error. Took the problem to western digital themselves and gave them the file data information. They came back to me stating that it's a firmware issue. So basically if u have this unit u have 2 options. Sit tight and wait for a firmware update that can fix the problem (who's knows when this will come if ever) or return the unit. I chose to return both my units and have since purchased 2 Netgear Neotv 550 media players which are fantastic. I also own a WDTV Live Hub which is great as well just in case u don't want to go the Netgear option. Don't bother with the Kaiser Baas Media Player as this unit tends to heat up to around 80 degrees. Oh and before I conclude this review. Reading the other review, resetting the unit does not fix the issue. After a reset other files for example MKV fi

Slowest in the West

Jeff on 27.02.2012

Useless for every video file I tried. At best it plays for about 20 seconds before it stutters, audio is lost and the video becomes useless.... sigh... should have read the reviews before I purchased. Will be taking this back.

Huh? Works fine for me

JC on 01.03.2012

Have had this unit for a couple of weeks and have not experienced any of the issues detailed above. I have been plugging my 1tb WD external hard drive into the front usb port and, contrary to the reviews above, this little unit has played every file format I've thrown at it (MP4, avi, vob, etc). I am also a fan of the super easy user interface, and the fact that it comes with a remote is just awesome.

Outstanding!

Viddy on 13.03.2012

Hi all, I've been using these units for a few months now and they are just awesome! I have the units pointed towards my NAS on my home network and are linked via the NFS protocol, so they are super fast. There is no lag, no freezing (after setting region to Central Europe ISO) and I am very pleased indeed with the past couple of firmware updates that have patched the couple of concerns I had with the usability and functioning of the two units I have. If you are moderately/advanced tech savvy, you will have no issue setting these units up (correctly) and will be rewarded with a super sleek UI and usability. Those of you with issues, perhaps joint the WD forums and fix your issues before writing reviews as these devices are by far the best on the market for video streaming. Again, superb!
