Great unit - terrible design.

While I cant fault the functionality of this media player (played the majority of different file formats in excellent quality), I don't understand why WD insist of having two VERY obnoxiously bright white LED's at the front of the unit. Given that these devices are generally made to be placed under the TV, the last thing you want is distracting bright lights in your eyes the whole time!

I bought this so I can watch my Home and Away episodes through the TV with my WD My Passport Essentials 160GB Hard Drive when I go away on holidays without having all this drama.

This thing is awesome. Plays almost everything I can think of, super easy to use interface, USB WiFi and memory interface. Couldnt be happier

I've had mine for nearly a year and it's the best thing I ever bought. I connected two large USB hard drives to it, routed the vision to the TV with HDMI and the sound via an optical cable to my surround sound amp - perfect! The USB drives are visible to my computer as network drives so anything I download just gets dumped to them and played immediately. I can also use the Windows "Play to" command to play music or vision to the Media player. I've found almost nothing that it won't play.

Very good unit as far as playback goes. It nearly tricked me as far as DVD's ripped to a hard disk goes though. You have to start playback from the VIDEO TS folder, otherwise it won't play properly. Lucky I worked that out before I thought it was a fault [sheepish grin]. Can also take a while to load up all the data when a new drive is plugged in, especially if you've got loads of small video clips on it. Overall very good - I'm off to buy another one today to travel around with.
