Read/write flash cards & back up your contacts

D. P. on 17.12.2008

Not only does this unit handle all the major flash cards but it also reads/writes mobile phone SIM cards (via included software for Win 2000/XP/Vista), so it enables backup/restore and PC editing of your contacts list if you have no other means of phone to PC connectivity. Each card slot (except the SIM) appears as a different drive letter on the PC and I found that if I allowed XP to recognise the device on its own and only afterwards installed the software then I gained icons in explorer indicating which drive was for which type of card (xD, SD, ...). I've used it successfully for both xD & SD cards but was a little disappointed to find that it didn't recognise both simultaneously, so direct card to card copy doesn't appear to be possible. My main complaint though would be with the USB connector which swivels out from the unit but doesn't lock firmly into place, making it seem somewhat flimsy when inserting into a port on the computer. However this is minor when compared with the usefulness & price!!! of the device.

Don't know what I stuffed up first time, but this reader DOES recognise multiple cards simultaneously, so card to card copy is definitely available.

My old PQI was obsolete, spotted this advert & the reviews, so I bought one. Loaded into XP OK but spat the dummy with Win 7. A phone call to the excellent support line soon fixed that problem
