An emerald in a turquoise sea, the coral cay was not always here!A few hundred years ago it was merely a bare sand bank. Before that a submerged coral reef. Mother Nature created the island from the sea - born from the relentless waves which slowly heaped the coral sand into one big pile which rose above high tide. Birds flocked to the 'New Land' and deposited fertilizer and seeds. Bushes sprang from the sand. Now, the vegetated coral cay is a complex ecosystem and the creatures who come here still maintain the vital link with the sea that surrounds it. It is a harsh new land, where predation is rife and only the fittest survive.
