After an impulsive, regrettable affair with his pretty young assistant, guilt-ridden family man, Walter Pearce (Ray Liotta), confesses his indiscretion to his wife of twenty-four years, Deborah (Glenne Headley), who promptly kicks him out of the house (and cleans out their joint bank account in the process.) A penniless, remorseful Walt is taken in by his next door neighbour, arrogant star quarterback of the local high school football team, Skylar Eckerman (Shaun Sipos). Skylar has just sustained a career-ending knee injury, and is also feeling extremely sorry for himself.
