The innovative show takes up where the writer/producer/stand-up comedian' s 1999 HBO special of the same name left off. Each half- hour episode features verit-style footage of David at home, at work and around town as he gets into predicaments (many of which are self- inflicted) involving fictional and real-life personalities. Curb Your Enthusiasm also co-stars Jeff Garlin (also an executive producer) as Larry's manager, Jeff Greene; and Cheryl Hines as Larry's wife, Cheryl. Celebrity guest stars playing themselves include Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Lewis and Kathy Griffin, among others.
Curb Your Enthusiasm proves how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life - a trip to the movies, a phone call, a television advertisement jingle - an precipitate a "Murphy's Law" chain reaction of hilarious misfortune. David's "character" has a knack for getting himself into awkward situations that frequently alienate him from family and friends.
To keep the narrative fresh and spontaneous, the show is shot without a script; cast members are given scene outlines, and they improvise dialogue. The result is an unpredictable format that's unlike anything else on television.
