Doug (Rhys Darby), a hard working Kiwi bloke, and a huge musical fan of Queen, suddenly finds himself dumped by long-term girlfriend Susan (Faye Smythe). Just before he lunges into a pit of self-sorry, Doug finds himself seeking solace in a newfound friend, an injured New Zealand Shelduck. Doug meets Holly (Sally Hawkins), the local animal specialist, while seeking advice about a noisy situation with his quacking friend. Just as romance beings to spark between the two, ex-girlfriend Susan has a change of heart. Doug is forced to make one of the most difficult decisions he has faced. Love is never easy, and just when you think you've got it figured out, it takes flight.
