Inspired by an incredible true story THE FIGHTER is a gritty affectionately humorous, yet stirring comeback tale of an unlikely boxing hero, "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg, Oscar Best Supporting Actor nominee 2007 The Departed) and his half-brother Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), who must come apart as opponents before oming together as brothers. Dicky was the pride of Lowell, Massachusetts for going toe-to-toe with champ Sugar Ray Leonard, but is now on hard times and a crack addict. Micky is now the family's fighter, with his fledgling career going nowhere under the management of his mother Alice (Melissa Leo). When Micky's latest mismatched fight nearly kills him, he is persuaded by iron-willed new girlfriend, Charlene (Amy Adams, Academy Award Best Actress nominee 2005 Junebug, 2008 Doubt), to do the unthinkable: split with the family, pursue his own interests and train without his troubled brother. Then Micky gets the shot of a lifetime at a title fight, and it soon becomes clear that it will take not only Charlene and his new trainer but also his brother and the whole family to get him there.
