John Marx and Venus Hoy find themselves in a living situation that is new to both of them. New to Marx because he was used to living with his girlfriend Kelly, who recently left him for another man with a flashier lifestyle. New to Venus because she's never lived with just one man before. Housemate or otherwise. It's a rocky road the first month after Kelly moved out. Especially for Venus, who can't understand why Marx is still so down in the dumps over such a shallow, and manipulative woman. Not that she'd ever say that to Marx. Surely after a full month of moping around the house over a failed relationship a person should be getting back to the land of the living, right? As much as Marx is trying to go through the motions, his heart and confidence are in the gutter. Nothing helps. It's all he can do just to go to work, shower, and eat something not covered in mould from the fridge. Or stay at home and build the world's most elaborate model aeroplanes. But he needs to talk. Open up. Discuss his feelings. And Venus is the closest thing he's got to a friend at this particular point in time. Plus, she knew Kelly, and she's a girl, so she's the best person for the job. You'd think. But Marx's attempts for commiserating misery are virtually wasted on Venus. This is because Venus, with what little time she can spare, has her own ideas about how to help Marx get over Kelly. And they don't include feeling sorry for him. After a while, Marx and Venus learn to co-exist as they adapt to the new situation. Although Venus has never had her heart broken before (not hard when all you ever date are wankers), she slowly begins to understand Marx's feelings a little more. And while Marx finds it difficult getting over Kelly, Venus usually finds a way to make it easier, just by being herself. When she's not annoying the hell out of him, that is. At least she's distracting. Finally, Marx moves on and feels ready to date as the memory of Kelly dims. Venus continues to date a smorgasbord of disappointing men.But as time passes they discover they've moved on from being just housemates. They've turned into friends. Real friends. As they become closer, they challenge each other's lifestyles and choices. They discover, sometimes by accident, the quirks, insecurities and habits that make a person who they truly are; things about themselves, and about the person they're living with. And these can lead to many difficult and personal questions. Like why Venus keeps choosing the wrong men. Or why Marx is content with keeping the same boring job, year after year, without ever asking himself what it is he really wants. Or the biggest question of all; how they really feel about each other. No one knows where they should go from here. Least of all Marx and Venus. There's no rulebook for housemates that begin to care a bit too much... But sometimes life has a funny way of butting in in the most unpredictable way, and just sometimes, things unravel in a way completely unexpected.
