Though deceased patriarch Nathaniel Fisher (recurring guest star Richard Jenkins) continuesto live in the hearts and visions of his family, much has changed in the Fisher household. Eldest son and new father Nate (Krause) has adjusted to his career as a funeral director butfaces a life-or-death medical emergency and the end of a turbulent romance with hisemotionally unstable girlfriend, Brenda (Griffiths). Younger and now openly gay son David (Hall) finds his role reversing in his relationship with frustrated ex-police officer Keith Charles (St. Patrick). Matriarch Ruth (Conroy), a doting new grandmother, awakens to thereality of her non existent relationship with her Russian lover and boss, while Claire (Ambrose), the rebellious teenage daughter, tries to find happiness and herself in art school. Also, now that Fisher & Sons is Fisher & Diaz, longtime mortician and new co-owner Federico (Rodriguez) expects to be treated by Nate and David as a partner, not an employee.
