The Spaced-Out Spaceship! John Carpenter, the legendary director best-known for Halloween and The Thing, had his first hit with a student sci-fi spoof called Dark Star, now a bona fide cult classic from the early 70s. Coming to DVD in a special Director's Cut, Dark Star is Carpenter's send-up of Kubrik's 2001: A Space Odyssey, and follows four jaded astronauts on a mission to clear unstable planets from outer galaxies. But years from Earth, things start to go wrong as a beachball-like alien turns up, one member decides to 'surf' back to Earth, and the toilet paper runs out!
