night of the demon

Night of the Demon indeed.....!!!! Do not be put off by that funny looking "Godzilla" type on the cover of this new release - this is absolutely one of the all time scary movies ! Filmed on location in misty England (featuring Stonehenge at one stage) this is a perfect example if ever there was one of "It's not what you see but what you don't see that scares you". The use of shadow and sound puts many modern horror shockers to shame. I recommend this movie without hesitation and it is best savoured with all the lights out (and windows and doors locked) See it !

Night of the Demon

Totally agree with the previous reviewer, old school horror is the best. The 'demon' was only put in after the film was made on the insistence of the American producer. Fortunately it's not that bad. This film is all mood and chiarocuro camerawork and lighting. The standout performance comes from Niall McGuiness as the 'villain', Karswell. There are some genuine creepy scenes in this film! The director Jacques Tourneur was a true master. If you genuinely enjoy horror films, seek this one out!
