On the day of James Kirk's birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was looking for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan at that time, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker inspired by Capt. Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet even as he annoys his instructors like young Cmdr. Spock.   | Where did all the extras go? Bruce Moffatt on 26.10.2011 I thoroughly enjoyed J.J. Abram's 'no holds barred' timeline reboot of the Star Trek franchise. Some incredible effects, solid acting from a cast with sequel potential, and a ripping yarn in true Trek fashion. The transition from DVD to BR is a dissapointment. While the audio and video transfer is excellent, all the supplementary material but one commentary track and a BD live link have disappeared. Given the capacity of the disks, I would have expected there to be all the DVD features and then some. Come on Paramount, stop milking Trek fans for double dips! 5 stars for the movie, 2 stars for Paramount's poor presentation of extra features. |
