Every two years, something very special occurs in the skies above Avalon in Victoria - the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition - popularly known as simply the Avalon Airshow. The 2011 show was particularly special as it celebrated some significant anniversaries. Firstly, the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Air Force in 1921, the world's second oldest independent air force after Britain's RAF. The RAAF and the Australian Defence Force are major stakeholders in the show and just about all of their air assets were on display in 2011, in the air and on the ground. Avalon 2011 also marked the 75th anniversary of the first flight of what for many is the most famous fighter in aviation history - the Supermarine Spitfire - and for the show itself this was a special occasion - it was the tenth time it has been held. You've got the best seat in the house, so sit back, relax and enjoy one of the world's great flying displays and meet some of the people who made it possible. The Australian International Airshow 2011 - feel the power!
