It is 1865, at the close of the Civil War, Nate and the Colonel is the tale of ex-confederate Colonel Ben Loftin who heads West from North Carolina in Search of the Union Major who murdered his wife. Accompanying the Colonel on this epic journey is Nate Washington, a newly freed slave who was the Colonel's boyhood friend. Traveling across the Great Plains, they save the life of Standing Elk, a wounded Chippewa Warrior Chief they come upon while singing his death song. The favor is returned when they are later captured by a band of Warriors from his village. Using the village as their base, they continue their search for the Union Major and clash with Blackfeet Indians and renegade Yankee Cavalry. Nate And The Colonel is a sprawling saga that brings to mind the epic scale of Dances With Wolves.
