Civilization V takes the strategy game series in new directions with the introduction of hexagon tiles allowing for deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire. The game features fully animated leaders interacting with players from a screen-filling diplomatic scene and speaking in their native language for the first time. Wars between empires feel massive as armies dominate the landscape, and combat is more exciting and intense than ever before. The addition of ranged bombardment allows players to fire weapons from behind the front lines, challenging players to develop clever strategies to guarantee victory on the battlefield. In addition, an extensive suite of community, modding and multiplayer elements also make an appearance.

Over the course of the game you can research new technologies, interact with other Nations and their leaders, destroy barbarian encampments and create massive cities as part of your journey to be the supreme power in the world. Offering four different paths to victory, this game has something for every type of strategist. Culture involves building impressive buildings and wonders; Science through a journey to another solar system; Diplomacy via the United Nations; and Military with the destruction of your rivals. Depending on your play style and speed, matches can last an hour, or much more (I have personally taken six hours total to complete a long match over the course of a few days), and can have you glancing at the clock wondering where the time went.
