E. on 23.08.2008 Sherwood have obviously been inspired by Technics SL1200 when designing this Turntable, but this tunrtable is more suited for home use than gigging, Sure, there is pitch control and a strobe and target light, but the plinth or platform is plastic making it less durable and mechanism is belt driven - so scratching isn't a reasonable option. It would have preferred if Sherwood engineers tried to take a more minimalist approach with the design perhaps taking cues from audiophile favourites such as Pro-ject, Rega or Thorens (Which I must add are belt driven). Maybe Sherwood lack a little confidence in this regard. But really this turntable is as good as any of the aforementioned entry systems. This sound source certainly has some great features, manual setup, solid die-cast platter, metal tone arm with an adjustable counter weight and replaceable headstock and an Audio Technica cartridge at less than half the price of most other turntables. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | High quality, entry level turntable D. B. on 04.06.2009 This turntable looks almost EXACTLY like the pro-level Technics SL-1200, so one might be tempted to think its just going to be a lousy knock-off. Well, it is a bit of a knock-off, but is a good one at that. Has a high quality, standard-fitting stylus cartridge which means you can upgrade later. Solid record platter with strobe markings for fine-tuning the speed to perfection. Adjustable counter-weight and anti-skating allow for fine-tuning the perfect sound at minimum damage to your records (helped by the curved tonearm). Highly recommended for those who are interested in regulary playing their vinyl collection. No pre-amp though means you will need either an amp with phono input or a seperate pre-amp. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sherwood Turntable Highstick on 21.04.2010 I bought an Akai turntable before this one and had to take it back - it continuously jumped and had bad interference noise. This Sherwood turntable is really good - no problems with any LP I've played and I just record through the line input rather than USB. Great value! |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Fall in Love with Vinyl again Batman on 31.05.2010 I have had one of these for 2 weeks now and have fallen back in love with my old vinyl albums. I have it connected to my computer via an amplifier and am trialing several softwares to digitise my records and load to my iPod. I considered getting one of the TTs with usb out but they did not have a dust cover. Love this turntable...it's a modern classic. NOT for DJing or scratching etc...Cheers |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good Value. Reg on 03.09.2011 I shied away from the other two turntables because, well to be honest, ... their were ugly as Queensland cane toads and neither had a dust cover. This one has a cover and is a blessed belt drive which is the " ONLY way of minimizing wow and flutter." No, there was more than that. I wanted something better than just a USB output, even though high on my priorities was generating quality CDs of my extensive and valuable LP library. So I was coaxed into accepting that a Kaiser baas Musicmaker A/D converter contained the appropriate RIAA equalization. BIG WRONG boys and girls. Fortunately I had a Behringer Ultra Compact Phono Pre-Amp and the supplied cartridge is not one of those 2mV versions. . Problem solved you ask?. Nooooo!!!!! Who-ever heard of running the low level unshielded the RCA cables supplied, half a metre across the room to an already hum susceptible set of modules? Apparently NOT Sherwood or JB HI-FI. So, it's a short shielded pair with ONLY one of the shield tails e... |
