The new firmware updates for this unit allow for quad type recording (2x channels @ 2x streams (e.g. 7HD, 72 & 9HD, GO)), separate front/rear time padding, external HDD NTFS filesystem support & unmounting external HDD without going into standby. External USB 2.0 transfer rate is acceptable @ approx one minute p/GB. Interestingly, this unit has better quality tuner chips than used in my Panasonic plasma & DVR.
Easy to use and great interface

Great recording features with scheduling and Intelligent Recording! The user interface is excellent and very easy to handle, especially with the IR one-button system. Impressed by the external HDD capability and being able to transfer recorded programs to a pc. Timeshifting is very smooth and responsive. Another helpful feature is the ability to turn the unit off to standby mode before disconnecting it from the mains, which avoids potential HDD damage. Highly recommend for anyone!

I was blessed to have used a Topfield model since 2005 and loved it. Great in all aspects. It died a natural death and I was keen to replace it - I spent 30mins trying a Kogan SOB piece of arse before googling better options. Topfield7160 sang out as being exactly what I wanted. The menu prompting and flow are very similar to my first one so I could dive right in and from the get go, I have been using the 7160 with great success. It was a piece of cake to set up and tune. I love all the HD channels that I now get and my wife loves being able to store a large range of shows for when she ends her shifts. The remote could be slightly better by having larger buttons for the functions that are most used. And i tried to load a movie from an external hard drive and couldn't access it - but that is bound to be my fault. But the fact that I could locate the file after experimenting suggests that this aspect isn't the clearest to achieve. That however is my only criticism, and a small one
Quality. Well worth the money.

Solid quality, Easy user interface. If mine ever breaks down I hope this model is still being made. Highly recommended.

Picked up Sony Bravia KDL40EX720 40 from JB Wollongong, along with Topfield TRF7160- was watching the whole set up in about 20mins. Excellent Tv for the price and the PVR very easy to use, can record whole series without internet connection. Both very easy to use. I highly recommend
