Glorious soul from P.P. Arnold: late 60s material she recorded for the Immediate label that's a wonderful mix of sweetly soaring sounds with more a rollicking core. It's easy to hear why P.P. made such a splash in the UK, bringing the heart and soul out of Beatles, Stones and other hit songs of the times on top of hipper and more soulcentered numbers, with strings and some pop flourishes, but without stripping the soul from the arrangements -- which you couldn't do with P.P. Arnold singing even if you tried.
