After a long break singer, songwriter & bass player MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO returns for her 8th album on her new label, MERCER STREET. She enjoyed huge commercial success on MADONNA's MAVERICK label in the early and mid '90s with hits like "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)" and "Dread Loc". Prior to this she was a successful session bassist alongside THE ROLLING STONES, ALANIS MORRISETTE, CHAKA KHAN, TONY ALLEN, JAMES BLOOD ULMER amongst many and was the 1st woman on the cover of Bassplayer Magazine. Never pure in her sound, Ndegeocello claims this album is influenced by the likes of THE HUMAN LEAGUE, YES & WU-TANG. While she came from a jazz / funk heritage she has managed to meld R&B, hip hop, rock, dub & new wave seamlessly. 'Devil's Halo' is impossible to pigeonhole & sounds utterly unique.
