First released in 1993 to great critical acclaim, The Familiar has proven to be one of the most used sources of the All Saints catalogue for advertising, featuring in adverts for Nissan and Japan Railways amongst others, and is also regularly cited as a favourite by Eno, Nelson and St. John fans. Roger Eno composed all tracks with Kate St. John (Dream Academy) supplying the lyrics on this collection of instrumentals and vocals. The album opens with "Our Man In Havana," an extraordinary piece featuring string, Bill Nelson on guitar and a typewriter of all things, and then flows effortlessly into typically Eno melodies with woodwind and strings on "The Wonderful Year." A vocal track follows "We Stay Still", and this pattern continues until the last vocal track, "The Blue Sea."
