Laraaji started out as a comedian working his way through Greenwich Village clubs in the 1970s when one day he impulsively traded in his guitar for a zither, adopted the name Laraaji, and began busking. Brian Eno, living in New York at the time, heard his music and offered to record him. Flow Goes The Universe, Laraaji's second major work, features Laraaji on vocals, zither, mbira, keyboards, and percussion. Wondrously atmospheric and involving, Laraaji's purity of essence derives from shedding keyboards and samples for the sparklingly lustrous zither, he creates panoramas that are shimmering and dreamily effective.
