We may never get to hear CURTIS MAYFIELD singing with BLACK SABBATH or JIMMY PAGE riffing with FUNKADELIC, but we do have the debut album from Bristol five piece THE HEAVY. 'Great Vengeance & Furious Fire' is a fitting second release on the COUNTER label, the offshoot of NINJA TUNE. These guys have drawn from their love of acts like THE SONICS, OHIO PLAYERS, SLIM HARPO, RARE EARTH, NORMAN WHITFIELD & LEDZEPPELIN and created an album that will burn a hole in your music system! They manage to distill a heady brew (that might send you blind when consumed in too large an amount) of psychedelia, acid rock, stinky soul, fiery funk, gutbucket blues, garage rock and hip hop.
