When Rod Stewart released the first volume of his 'Great American Songbook' collection in 2002, the former Faces' vocalist made the transformation from lad rock hero to lounge lizard. A further four volumes followed, with three and four both topping the US charts.This collection of tracks traces the roots of those albums back to the original recordings, concentrating on the songs that hailed from the '20s, '30s and early 1940's.
