"Honey honey honey... you make a good idea!"

Sounds like: A 60-year old Kim Salmon fronting a trio of 16-year olds learning to play "No Fun" from scratch the day they bought their instruments whilst bellowing about the Eureka Stockade...
"They built a prison let it temper in the sun
It roars up off the plateau like the last tooth in a gum
You went there by train...
And you would never be the same"

Sounds like: The Beasts Of Bourbon (early years), The Birthday Party (later years), The Plug Uglies, Crow, Hoss, The Surrealists, Bored, The Powder Monkeys... But then again they sound like none of em - picture what Warren Ellis looks like mid-flight and that's REALLY what the Drones have managed to capture on their second record.

Lead track "Shark Fin Blues" is as unstoppable a track as I've heard - a song so good that the rest of the album just HAS to be good -and "Locust" is one of those songs that sounds REAL REAL DESPERATE - it's hard NOT to be affected by it... the sound that swells up near the end of this track can only be summed up by the song title.

"They made the blacks live outside of town
The weekend come they tear the whole place down
The chinese came without weekends at all
And the whites complain the pay was better shootin them in the war"

In my head The Drones are real rock n roll throwbacks - they wouldn't own a CD player between them and couldn't even comprehend the idea of an iPod - they sound like the kind of people that aren't awake while the sun is up. Of course that is probably not true, but the power of great rock n roll is that it makes you BELIEVE without question.

An album like this has a completely unexplainable appeal. It's not a loud, dumb or brash album. It's an album that goes for the kill all guns blazing.
