Formed in Portland, 1993, Quasi is Sam Coomes, Janet Weiss (Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, ex Sleater-Kinney) and Joanna Bolme (Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks). Quasi's new album, American Gong, lurches and veers; it reels, resets, crawls and moans. But the album also professes beauty; it surfaces from the murkiness and soars. In the midst of this awesome sonic storm are expertly crafted compositions and arrangements, gravel and grime-coated rock, psych and pop tunes that never lose their shine. Throughout their time together the trio have also toured and / or recorded either individually or collectively with Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks (of which Janet and Joanna are still members), Built to Spill, Bright Eyes, Heatmiser, The Go Betweens, Pink Mountain, Blues Goblins, The Takeovers and Jandek.
