The Joy Formidable is Ritzy Bryan - vocals/guitar, Rhydian Dafydd - bass, Matt Thomas - drums. The album was produced by The Joy Formidable and mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Glas Vegas). 'The Big Roar' sees the welsh trio unfold a revolutionary loud/quiet dynamic for a new decade. Front-woman Ritzy, brings a welcome delicacy to the band; the cosmically overwhelming, crunchy guitar is awash with reverb and gives way to a beautifully, well-produced set of vocals. The follow up to 2010's critically acclaimed, 8 track EP "A Balloon Called Moaning," 'The Big Roar' is an enormous collection of sheer, sprawling, stadium level joy. The previously familiar tracks 'Austere' and 'Whirring' ripple with power and energy. 'Cradle,' propels you towards an ending that transcends genre, a blissed out, white out noise fest compared with album opener 'The Ever Changing Spectrum Of A Lie,' a multi layered behemoth of a track. In contrast, the spectral splendour of 'Buoy' and the intimate 'Llaw = Wall,' featuring a lead vocal from drummer, Rhydian, shows a band supremely confident in demonstrating a wide emotional breadth this early in their careers.
