Many of the members of TORTOISE recorded together with WILL OLDHAM at the very start of his musical career, when they were still part of legendary Louisville post-rockers SLINT. Bringing the two parties back together again, twelve years on, is a masterstroke. 'The Brave & The Bold' sees them collaborate on a selection of their favourite songs, including modern pop masterworks like "That's Pep" by DEVO alongside more unexpected turns such as "Daniel" by ELTON JOHN and "Thunder Road" by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. The songs are almost unrecognisable to their original versions, yet each was chosen with care and reverence with no sense of irony. The record is
undeniably both a Tortoise and a Bonnie 'Prince' Billy record, and yet altogether something completely new and exciting. A covers record as unorthodox as they come.
