Originally released in 1987, this DVD contains some of the earliest performances of one of America's more controversial punk rock bands, the Dead Kennedys. 9 songs here, filmed between 1978 and 1981, at various venues around San FranciscoSaid to be one of the best bands to come out of the late 1970s/early 1980s American 'hardcore' punk scene, San Francisco's Dead Kennedys formed in 1978 and lasted until 1986 when they broke up after almost eight years of touring and recording. However their legacy lives on thanks to Target Video! Target Video, known better for capturing all sorts of great bands from the SF scene during the 80's, have put together a nice compilation of early Dead Kennedys video footage onto DVD. Comprised of recorded footage from various venues during the years from 1979 through 1981. Highlights include a lot of the bands more popular early songs like California Uber Alles, Kill The Poor, Holiday In Cambodia and their infamous cover of Elvis Presley's Viva Las Vegas that is played far straighter than you might think. Combining sinister sounding surf guitar with intelligent lyrics and politics, the Dead Kennedys left their mark on music that even the recent law suits between band members is unable to tarnish, and this DVD is a nice collection of material that should satiate fans.
