Six albums. Each one, a milestone: The time we thought we were indestructible. The time we lit a fire under the establishment. The time we wondered if it was all worth it. No.6, if we put it under the microscope, is the album that hunts down the truth, asks the big questions and demands answers. The Ending is Just the Beginning Repeating is The Living End’s most honest album yet.

Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Andy Strachan have always forged their own path, irrespective of passing fads, haircuts, and any vogue for keytar-wielding debutantes. Their songs require of the listener asocial conscience and mosh pit stamina, and give in return a visceral experience that’s flawlessly executed. It’s this attitude that’s earned the band four platinum and one gold albums.

Winding up the tour cycle that followed 2008’s White Noise, Cheney went to New York to buckle down and write, before the songs were jammed out organically in a South Melbourne rehearsal room. Finally the demos were taken to 301 Studios in Byron Bay and Chris’s studio Red Door Sounds in Collingwood for a reworking with producer Nick DiDia — who has put the Midas touch on records by The Living End-approved Bruce Springsteen and Rage Against the Machine — imported especially for the occasion from Atlanta. Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Powderfinger, AC/DC)  took the reigns as mixer. The results are astonishing.

45:33 was originally recorded by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) as a continuous album-length disco symphony. Commissioned by Nike for their Original Run series, it was the second in the series and proved a massive success, both critically and commercially. It is the result of Murphy's desire to create a piece of music outside the typical commercial constraints. 45:33 is a refreshing audio creation, complete and fulfilling, moving through a dynamic range of tempos and rhythms, all the while maintaining the essence of an LCD Soundsystem recording.

Last year for Halloween, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS were set to perform in New York at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center, but due to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the show had to be rescheduled (Monday, December 10). The band's powerful performance was captured for an audio-visual experience titled OCEANIA: LIVE IN NYC. At Barclays Center, the PUMPKINS--singer/guitarist BILLY CORGAN, guitarist JEFF SCHROEDER, drummer MIKE BYRNE and bassist NICOLE FIORENTINO--performed their acclaimed OCEANIA CD in full, followed by classics and deep cuts from their body of work for the second half of the show (the set list is below). The PUMPKINS were backed by visuals prepared by Evans, whose most recent project was assisting Roger Waters on the newest staging of "The Wall."
