For a band whose line-up has only been cemented this year, The Soft Pack - formerly known as The Muslims - have accomplished a breathtaking amount. They've sent bloggers into a frenzy, supported the world's hottest bands (Phoenix, Vivian Girls, Wavves, Franz Ferdinand, The Breeders, The Last Shadow Puppets) and become one of the most talked about acts at 2009's CMJ and SXSW festivals. Born and bred in San Diego but currently based in LA, The Soft Pack's sound is razor-sharp. no-frills and a sound that draws in influences from acts as varied as The Stooges, Jonathan Richman, Wire and The Velvet Underground, they specialise in fiercely infectious, stripped-down, garage jams. Collecting all of The Soft Pack's best material to date on one essential disc, 'Extinction' is an electrifying glimpse of a young, cutting edge rock and roll band in their prime. Title track, "Extinction", is teasingly provocative, boasting the disdaining opening line, "If you give me a gun / I will point it at you".
