Five Years is an introduction to the man we call JV. A prolific and acclaimed songwriter and pristine producer, John Vanderslice was part of the experimental-pop act MK Ultra before commencing his solo career. Five Years captures some of the best work from his five solo albums: Mass Suicide Occult Figurines (2000), Time Travel is Lonely (2001), Life and Death of An American Fourtracker (2002), Cellar Door (2004) and the forthcoming Pixel Revolt which spawns the first single and video from Five Years, "Exodus Damage." In the age of laptop lo-fi, when anyone can make a record anywhere they want, Vanderslice is a purist for the old way. Hehas a lust for old esoteric audio gear and for the process of recording, as is evident in his painstaking work. Adored and admired by his peers in the indie-rock scene, JV's records have featured guest appearances by members of Spoon, Beulah, Death Cab for Cutie and the Mountain Goats.
