Rumours that a fresh-faced pop mega-beast was emerging from Cardiff fi rst began to surface early in the Summer of 2006. Formed in 2005 at Cardiff University (where the band members still study) amidst a blaze of enthusiasm, friendship, chance acquaintances, and the desire to craft damn good pop music Los Campesinos! were from the outset, a happy union. Wholly detached from any obvious London-centric 'scene', Team Campesinos! was now complete and cooking on gas. Recorded by Broken Social Scene producer David Newfeld, "Hold on Now, Youngster" is the debut album from Los Campesinos. Signed to Wichita, home of Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco and Peter Bjorn and John.

Quick acclaim was achieved in the Mexican underground scene for their live act which included both of them dressed in a 50's women fashion referring to women being slaves in home chores, using brooms, feather dusters and bloody aprons. Teri Gender Bender would also use artificial blood, flour, eggs, meat and a real pig head all over the stage, interacting with the public most of the time.
