from Wikipedia: The name of the album possibly refers to an oak tree in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest, thought to be 1,000 years old. The tree is a pollarded oak, referring to an ancient technique for harvesting timber for fencing and firewood. Though it does not feature on maps, the tree is said to be 3 miles from Tottenham Court House, where Radiohead recorded part of their previous album In Rainbows.
With eight tracks, and just over thirty-seven minutes of music, The King of Limbs is Radiohead's shortest album to date. In 2009, commenting on the nature of future Radiohead releases, Thom Yorke stated that: "None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off. I mean, it's just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we've all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us."

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Endless perfection Nathan on 29.03.2011 Pretty much two EP's rolled into one album, with the first 4 tracks, you get this 'Amnesiac/Hail To The Thief' feeling, it's intense yet powerful and exciting listening. Then arguably Radiohead's most potent and greatest song comes along, 'Lotus Flower' changes the whole dynamic of the album, the fast drums continue, yet softer, Yorke's voice goes up a cog and so does his lyrics. The album turns from great to miraculous within those 5 minutes. From then on, we hear 'Codex', a piano focussed song with Yorke's voice powerfully asserting itself alongside. 'Give Up The Ghost' is an acoustic 'Pyramid Song' in many ways and continues on with the softer side of the album. Then just to leave you wanting more, Seperator comes along and blows your mind, with echoing vocals, and beautiful yet spacious and dreamy drum patterns. Only Radiohead can do this, whilst it's been 4 years in waiting since 'In Rainbows', 'The King Of Limbs' although only 38 minutes in length... |
