Fujiya & Miyagi - Lightbulbs Magnifying particles of sound to create a pulsing antidote to the ordinary, Brighton’s FUJIYA & MIYAGI are back with their first album proper ‘Lightbulbs’. Magnifying particles of sound to create a pulsing antidote to the ordinary, Brighton’s FUJIYA & MIYAGI are back with their first album proper ‘Lightbulbs’. Still riding a wave of critical acclaimed generated by 2006’s ‘Transparent Things’ (a collection of EP’s), the four-piece combine wafts of early HUMAN LEAGUE synth, with PINK-FLOYD-ian Englishness and the throbbing groove of TOM TOM CLUB!

Formed in 2000 as an electronic duo of David Best (guitars & vocals) and Steve Lewis (synths, beats, programming), adding bass player Matt Hainsby in 2004, they released a series of 10” EPs (later released as a much-loved CD ‘Transparent Things’ in 2006 to enormous critical acclaim; being awarded presigeous Best New Music status by PITCHFORK, and receiving rave reviews in NME and MOJO.
Fujiya & Miyagi stay away from lyrical themes that have been done to death. Using old synths to punctuate their beautifully-observed anecdotes on romantic triumphs & disasters, heroes & villains and the world at large, their rhythms palpitate to produce modern symphonies like no-one else. ‘Light Bulbs’ is a journey littered with fragmented images, anecdotes from the sublime to the ridiculous, blurry stories that you feel you shouldn’t have overheard. Each track an aural contamination set to itch your inner ear every waking moment.

Fujiya & Miyagi’s ‘Light Bulbs’ carves a niche of its own. This is truly contagious music, a completely unique take on modern pop music that’s completely their own. No better is this demonstrated than on the album’s furiously funky lead single “Knickerbocker”, with twists its way into your subconscious with a delectably mod groove & charming supporting video.

A strange hybrid of JAMES BROWN on Valium and WIRE gone pop; SERGE GAINSBOURG with a PhD in electronics backed by DAVID BYRNE’s ENO-produced scratchy guitar mixed by MF DOOM;Fujiya & Miyagimanage to evoke a world of sound without resembling anything that’s come before. Steeped in vintage music from evocative krautrock to deep soul, all filtered for modern times, ‘Lightbulbs’ is Darwinism

OPTIMO “Sublime Krautrock influenced pop music that we can’t get enough of”
TREVOR JACKSON “Radiohead meets Neu with a sophisticated twist … Outstanding!”
ANDREW WEATHERALL
“Defies even the best snappy one liner descriptions on any album sticker”
TIGA “Fujiya Miyagi… It’s just awesome! This band have their own sound, and it happens to be a very special one” …
