The first studio album in 17 years from these grunge godfathers!Whilst Flipper has never earned the status of household names, their influence on American alternative rock music in the last30 years has been incalculable. Formed in the late '70s in SanFrancisco at the height of the punk explosion, their music, acombination of slow, drawn-out sludgy punk - equal parts BlackSabbath and the Stooges - and humourous, often biting lyrics, saw them as precursors to the "grunge" movement, and the bandhas been hailed as a pivotal influence on the likes of Nirvana, the Melvins and Mudhoney, as well as Jello Biafra, producerRick Rubin, comedian Neil Hamburger and even Moby. Resurrected in late 2006 by a call from Sonic Youth's ThurstonMoore to play his Nightmare Before Xmas festival in London, the band hasn't stopped since. With Nirvana's Krist Novoselicstepping in on bass duties (to replace the deceased Will Shatter),the band re-grouped and has been trekking across the US andEurope to great acclaim. The studio album, Love, was recorded by grunge luminaryJack Endino and sees the band stick to its patented brand ofidiosyncratic, drone-laden sludge-rock and chaotic punk mixedwith caustic lyrics bemoaning the woes of the world. Novoselic'schunky bass lines and singer Bruce Loose's howling vocals powerthe band along, whilst veterans Ted Falconi and Steve DePaceprovide the textures and metronomic beats. Fight was recordedat two separate shows in late 2007 in Seattle and Portland andsee the band blazing their way through some old classics. packagedin a text/photo-filled 20-page booklet. In every other territorythese albums are to be released seperately. The mighty Flipper is back!
