Forming in 2000 British Sea Power had at first been defined by their riotous live shows. The debut album The Decline Of British Sea Power had NME declaring it "Out of this world. a dazzling debut." The UK Sunday Times simply stated that BSP were, "The best band in Britain." British Sea Power has always been notorious for their daring approach to contemporary music. Whether playing gigs on oil rigs or I caves they take a unique approach. Now they have written and recorded a new soundtrack for the 1934 film Man Of Aran. Man Of Aran is a powerful and provocative dramatised documentary from the late American filmmaker Robert J Flaherty. In a series of startling black-and-white sequences the film presents daily life on the inhospitable Aran islands on the west coast of Ireland. The film won the Grand Prix at the 1935 Venice Film Festival and the eminent film critic Pauline Kael described it as, "The greatest film tribute to man's struggle against a hostile nature.". "It's a wonderful film," says BSP guitarist Noble. "The images vary between huge drama and a brilliant kind of ridiculousness The band's soundtrack is every bit as dramatic, windswept and beguiling as the film and is a must for all fans of British Sea Power, post rock, film scores and music at the edge of contemporary rock. The audio CD features BSP's soundtrack to the film. The DVD contains the 75 minute movie offering 5.1 and 2.0 audio options of the studio version of the soundtrack plus the additional bonus/option of the first ever live performance of the work.
