Every month for the last six months, MATADOR RECORDS have released a limited Jay Reatard 7” record. These releases have generated more and more attention with every offer, and each one has been put out in a progressively more limited run. Each release has differed from the last (be it on clear and coloured vinyl, a split 7” or a picture disc) and all have sold out instantly upon release.
The new album features all six singles (with the exception of DEERHUNTER’s cover of Jay’s “Oh, It’s Such A Shame” from single #4) and is compiled in chronological order. In addition to the singles, this album also features an extra track, “I’m Watching You”. It not only caters for those who aren’t so bothered about collecting and those who missed out on the 7”s the first time round, but is also an outstanding collection of songs from this Southern marvel's endless woven stream of underground gold.
Never content to sit still, Jay is always motivated to keep going in the direction of his next musical impulses, regardless of passing trends and flimsy fashion statements. It's really anyone's guess as to what comes next. He is a true sign of an original - he's done his homework, repeatedly broke new ground, exposed us all to music we thought we'd never like, and paid his dues triplefold. NME has just issued a list of ‘25 Bands Making America Cool Again’ - it’s no surprise that Jay Reatard pulls a place, making the cut at #14.
