"Posthumous Success" is TOM BROSSEAU's first new album of studio material in two years, and his third FATCAT full-length release. It is a conceptual, modern, playful, dark and revealing album. The depth of "Posthumous Success" lies in its fullness; the richness and breadth of its sonic textures and song writing eloquence. 'Tom Brosseau' evokes the simultaneous poignant darkness and simple resignation of pre-war North America with all the authenticity of a first-hand witness, but the song writing is indelibly imbued with youth. His voice and guitar (formerly the driving instrumentation of his songs) are now parts of multifarious arrangements performed by MICE PARADE's Adam Pierce and SMALL SAILS' Ethan Rose. The new album also marks development in recording styles for Tom. 2007's 'Cavalier' was produced by John Parish (PJ HARVEY, EELS) and recorded in one week in one studio. For this record however, Adam Pierce produced half the tracks in upstate New York, alongside Ethan Rose's work on the other half of the record in Portland, Oregon. Two producers, two sets of guest musicians, recorded on separate US coasts; resulting in an intriguing collection of different styles, different instrumentation and different intricacies. Brosseau has captured the sparse intimacy of old-school folk, and his dense musical and personal histories have helped him create an album of great beauty, stillness, intimacy and celebration. The songs themselves are refined, embellished, expanded and orchestrated by a confident harmonic structure (Tom's captivating, vibrato-soaked voice) that very naturally extends itself from the smaller scale of Tom's past works. His song writing comes from such diverse influences as NICK DRAKE, COLE PORTER, BOB DYLAN and WOODY GUTHRIE.
