With this third album UK 3-piece Former Cell Mates have come of age, finally delivering on all they have promised up until now. This is their masterpiece - melodic punk (showing a nod to singer / guitarist David Lee Burdon's previous band Leatherface) getting hit side-on by a healthy dose of whiskey soaked rock (a la Lucero, Drive By Truckers, Hold Steady) and even a touch of soul spilling from Davey's emotive and raw vocals. The song writing is complemented by the addition of a brass section and piano, adding plenty of dynamic and a fresh dimension to the melancholy rock they've become known for. 'Presented As A Work Of Fiction' is not only a collection of the finest songs Former Cell Mates have written to date, but is also the album that should see them gain the recognition this band deserves.
