"Not emo enough for the facepaint and tight trousers crew; not Oz rock enough for suburbanites; not from-Sydney enough for JJJ. The Nation Blue are out there on their own." - Mess + Noise
March 5, 2007 marks the release of The Nation Blue's third, and most adventurous record, PROTEST SONGS. 4 dudes with beards spent 2 weeks in a mansion in the hills of regional Victoria, and this video is a document of what happened. Directed by David Withers.
I love AC/DC but I gotta say The Nation Blue are kinda taking the cake right now" - Dave Grohl
"Alright, firstly imagine yourself hanging out in the Derwent River. You reach into the water and the zinc burns your hand off. But instead of pain you feel warm and extremely powerful. You crawl out of the water on your melted stumps and only left with your speedos, your polluted limbs begin to grow back, but they are made of steel and nothing can stop your quest for world domination. Crush all before you and piss raw steel. Now with your super human powers eat the mixing board and shit floppy discs, snort the distressor and mix like steel wind!!"
Tom Lyngcoln of the Nation Blue really does piss raw steel. He bleeds it too. He writes and records exclusively in raw steel. The Nation Blue are a band that have come to be known as the band that will truly scare grown men. It’s not necessarily the loudest ones to watch out for...
It’s the quiet ones....the ones that just appear.
I am behind you.
The Nation Blue have left a string of town and cities across our land, in little less than a quivering mess of regret and self loathing - feeling though they have had their fucking whole town burnt down. Locked doors blown off hinges with splinters as big as your fist thrown through solid brick walls of these desperate little holding grounds of long kept secrets and dark tales tucked away in dimly lit hallways of the far outer suburbs.
This message to the dark corners of the population, the Nation Blue’s third album, Protest Songs, is a warning and testimonial to the anger and desperation held onto so tightly by the under belly, and a call to arms against the machine and the process.
