"Red, Yellow & Blue" was produced by RUSTY SANTOS, the studio whizz behind ANIMAL COLLECTIVE and PANDA BEAR's most recent efforts. Influences of PAVEMENT, THE PIXIES and all time heroes, THE STROKES go some way to explaining their unusual signature sound, or as has been suggested, JONATHAN RICHMAN fronting the TALKING HEADS, or the VIOLENT FEMMES' GORDON GANO In the kitchen with Animal Collective. However, what truly defines their sound is the essence of the band's personality, their easy charisma, intrinsic, inimitable and pervasive in all they do. On the one hand =Red, Yellow & Blue' exemplifies Born Ruffians' ostensible brand of joyful and infectious =hootin and hollerin', but it also displays a heartening depth and with elevating, capricious syncopation and jostling rhythms running throughout, it undeniably reveals them as pedigree musicians. Ruffians experiment with proggy time signatures, and they write songs that betray a country music influence. They can be wistful and sad, or goofy and triumphant-sometimes on the same track.
