The Crystal Axis is Midnight Juggernauts' second album - their first since Dystopia launched the Australian trio into a vortex of global intrigue. Befitting the DIY ethic of their self-owned and operated Siberia label, Midnight Juggernauts again opted to produce the album themselves, with engineer Chris Moore (TV on the Radio, Yeasayer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars) facilitating. An album that veers from percussive, hypnotic grooves to luxuriant jams, via rich Morricone-esque textural diversions, walls of sound, and 70s AM melodic forks, The Crystal Axis is a 50-minute symphony of synth-rock invention.

FLOODLIGHT COLLECTIVE, THE (VINYL) $32.99 (AUD) "The Floodlight Collective" is the glorious debut from Deerhunter guitarist and songwriter Lockett Pundt who also works under the name Lotus Plaza. Lockett Pundt's first full length release is an expansive meditation on the modern history of the pop song with an obvious appreciation for the atmospheric vocal harmonies of the 50's, the classic pop writers of the 60's, and the sounds of the early 80's postpunk UK scene | $26.99 (AUD) | Winter Of Mixed Drinks, The (Vinyl) $29.99 (AUD) | $19.99 (AUD) Eager to break from the workman like album / tour / album / tour grind that produced four successful and highly influential records in six years, Silverstein wrote Rescue over the course of a full year, which was a first for the band. Having this time allowed them to expand on every extreme of the Silverstein sound and the result is Silverstein’s masterwork, the anthems are bigger, the punk rock songs are faster and there’s hooks and melody a plenty. |
