Emerging in 2004 from Melbourne's independent punk / hardcore scene and inspired by the spirit and drive of bands like Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker and Against Me. After releasing a 5 track demo in December 2004, A DEATH IN THE FAMILY quickly moved towards recording their debut album "This Microscopic War", enlisting Frankie Stubbs (guitarist / vocalist from legendary UK band Leatherface) as producer. Poison City Records released "This Microscopic War" in February 2006 and a few years on, the album continues to receive praise for being a remarkable first release of international standard. The success of "This Microscopic War" and A DEATH IN THE FAMILY's reputation for stunning live performances has lead to some extensive touring in the past 2 years. Having signed to Resist Records, as a precursor to album number 2 Resist release "This Microscopic War" on vinyl, this being the first time on vinyl format.

The claim was cemented after their debut self-titled album was awarded the Mercury Music Prize in 1993. During that time the group effectively instigated a new focus on British guitar music which had been largely eclipsed by grunge before their emergence.
