Rising young Sydney wunderkinds Tom Ugly (formerly known as [is]), last year won triple j "Unearthed High" competition, with their toe-tapping, head-bobbing and unforgivably catchy tune, 'Cult Romance' which was one of the Top 10 most played songs on triple j for 2008. As interest grew in the band, a number of articles were written about the talent of this emerging artist. Most notably, the Sydney Morning Herald printed an article on the back page of the daily issue, considering the question of whether this artist would be the next 'Silverchair'? In November 2008, Tom Ugly was chosen to be one of the feature artists on triple j Next Crop for 2008. Releasing there critically acclaimed second single "Roll Again" and have since released another brandish anthem 'Bad with Love', both of which were placed on triple j high rotation and will soon be released on their long awaited upcoming debut EP. Encompassing a range of sounds including shades of Radiohead and The Presets, this toe tapping, head-bobbing and unforgivably catchy tunes are merely examples that speak for this growing act's huge potential and exciting future. Especially considering that Mr Tom Ugly (front man, sole songwriter & multi-instrumentalist) is still in high school.
